Oxford offers flexible, part-time courses suitable for busy professionals, researchers and volunteers, or anyone considering a career in the environmental and sustainability sectors.

Climate change modelling (online): A free online course offering an introduction to the science of climate and climate change. The course is a stand-alone, untutored learning experience that can be taken at the convenience of the user. Ecological survey techniques (online): Web-based, tutor-led courses for graduate-level professionals covering survey techniques for amphibians, birds, fish, invertebrates, mammals, reptiles and vegetation. Currently being developed into a new one-year, part-time, modular Postgraduate Certificate in Ecological Survey Techniques. Undergraduate Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Environmental Conservation (part-time): Mainly taking place at weekends, with additional online tutor support, these courses are taught both in the classroom and through practical fieldwork.

The Diploma explores UK wildlife and habitat conservation and management, and the Advanced Diploma examines global environmental issues and how global processes affect people locally. Oxford Energy Futures (conference): A one-day conference focusing on cutting-edge energy topics, with contributions from researchers at Oxford University as well as scientists and practitioners from commercial, government and regulatory organisations. Political Economy of the Environment (conference): A one-day conference examining alternative, inter-disciplinary economic thinking and how it can enhance the mainstream economic approach to environmental and natural-resource problems. MSc in Sustainable Urban Development (part-time): An intellectually rigorous two-year, part-time MSc supported by the Prince’s Foundation for the Built Environment. The course unites the study of urbanism and sustainability and will appeal to professionals, worldwide, working in property and architectural sectors.
