As an alternative school and then an Educational Centre for Sustainable Living, Monkton Wyld Court has for the past 70 years maintained the importance of farming and other practical skills and a focus on renewable energy as central to its ethos.

Today Monkton hosts a range of courses, conferences and gatherings for adults, families and children, and is home to a Steiner-based kindergarten. From bee-keeping to yoga, Monkton promotes low-impact, earth-centred skills for changing modern life. Family weeks with themes like Bushcraft and Fossil-hunting are especially popular, and our permaculture courses are led by specialists of international renown.

Monkton Wyld Court is committed to continuing efforts to provide an example and experience of more sustainable living for guests and volunteers. We use solar power and are working to develop an affordable and environmentally sound heating system for our buildings. Our UV-filtered well water is delicious and we have a unique reedbed sewage system. We use only natural cleaning products wherever possible.

Meals are beautifully prepared in the house kitchen using fresh ingredients from the walled garden and other local organic producers, as well as eggs from our own chickens. We choose local, organic, fair trade, recyclable and/or compostable products whenever possible and urge our visitors to do the same.
